Why is there even a term “Anti-Union”?
I don’t understand why unions are viewed with such bias. How can the term “Anti-Union” still be on the lips of 20-30 somethings working in the film industry? An industry that is very profitable and very union.
Labels
There are probably 20-30 legal classifications for corporations. Boiling the corruption of corporations down to the stereotype “All Corporations are evil………! ” Is a little silly, and not really useful.
For example the city you live is classified as a (Not for profit) Municipal corporation. What would you think of someone who claimed they were (Anti-Municipal corporation?)
I Mention “VFX Union” and suddenly “poof !” All such associations are vilified. Ask someone if they would like to negotiate their pay and benefits as a group and %90 reply “Of course.” Frankly this correlation that all unions are the same is just gross. If we organize, we write the contract, we have a say as to the language that is to our interest. Overtime, Double time, Triple time. sick pay. whatever.
Certainty without evidence. The doors are closed.
If you are (anti)-something. The doors of evidence have swung shut. A made up mind is just more pleasant a position. It’s easy to be “Sure” it takes work to be skeptical, and it’s down right hard to look on the net as too what the Film unions offer to their members.
Those that are already certain that a film union would not benefit VFX artists have not even bothered to find out what Local 669, TAG and IATSE 891 do.
